How to get to Tuebingen

Check out our custom map with the different waypoints!

If you come by plane, the closest airport is Stuttgart Airport. From there (station: Stuttgart Flughafen/Messe (SAB), Leinfelden-Echterdingen) you can take the bus 828 which goes directly to Tübingen main railway station (station: Tübingen Hauptbahnhof). The bus ticket costs about 7 euros and the bus ride takes about an hour.
Another way of getting to Tübingen from the airport in Stuttgart is taking the train/metro S2 Filderstadt/Flughafen Messe, get off at Stuttgart-Rohr, then take the S1 Herrenberg, get off at Herrenberg and from there take the train (RB or RE; a kind of regional train) straight to Tübingen. Here is an example of that connection:

Example S-Bahn to Tübingen

If you decide to come by train you need to find a connection to Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof (main station) first and then catch a regional train to Tübingen which takes about 40 minutes or an hour, depending on the train.

A third option would be to come by coach (mainly Flixbus/MeinFernbus). Some lines stop in Tübingen, directly at the main station. You can also take coaches to Stuttgart and then take the train from there.

If you come by car, you should leave the highway for federal streets B28 or B27 depending on the direction you are coming from.

The hostel (DJH Tübingen) is located near the city centre of Tübingen, so you can walk almost everywhere. If you decide not to ask for pick-up, the walk from the Hauptbahnhof to the hostel is about 12 minutes. There is also a bus (number 22) going straight to the hostel (stations: Jugendherberge Tübingen). The hostel’s address is:

Hermann-Kurz-Str. 4

72074 Tübingen
